Slow and Steady Wins The Race...
Introducing our door knocker,…
Since her descent from her perch on the door (to facilitate its painting), I’ve been working with a cocktail stick to scrape away her inevitable brass polish build up... making snail’s pace progress and periodically contemplating that from now on, unpolished could well be the way to go... used to be very fashionable a long time ago, I remember. And there's also no doubt whatsoever in my mind now that cocktail stick cleaning is really an awful lot of work.... in case anyone ever wondered...
I ‘m actually also using nail polish remover on the more tenacious flecks... hope it won't wind up damaging her surface,...it doesn’t damage skin mostly, so it must be okay on brass....I've decided to travel in that hope at least..
Scrape, chip, slide..
A dental hygienist would be hard pressed with some of this ancient grime, although just at this moment I do wish I owned a dental hygienist's tools....
buzz through grime in simply no time.... I should do an ad ...
Actually I have one of those electric flossers that shoot out mouthwash at high velocity like a jet spray... wonder if I could use it on...? - Those things are treacherous, though, if you accidentally hit yourself in the eye, and that's easier to do than you might imagine.. (hurts too, I can tell you that for nothing...)
This is actually very rewarding when you do finally get a section finished - niggling and worrying between tiny brass beads is also a great knit-drawal programme too…
Perhaps I'm on to something here….
A guy who lives a few streets away has been doing similar work on his wrought iron railings - for as long as I’ve lived here actually, which is close to thirty years. Someone should really go and interview him. I often tried ... asked him as I've gone by...
When on god's earth will you ever be finished that?!
He always just smiles and keeps on chipping…
Now I'm beginning to see why…
